What is the easiest ballroom dance to learn?

While there are several different styles of ballroom dance you can learn with us, the easiest ballroom dances to learn are the following:

  • Waltz
  • Foxtrot
  • Swing
  • Rumba
  • Cha-Cha

These dances are perfect for beginners simply because they have fewer steps and are relatively basic in their movements across the dance floor. People seem to enjoy the waltz the most because of the slow, and fluid motion and the four steps involved will have you and your partner gliding across the floor in no time.

What is the hardest ballroom dance to learn?

If you have a bit more dancing experience under your belt and are looking for a more challenging experience when you sign up for ballroom dance lessons in Minnesota, then you may want to attempt the following:

  • Tango
  • Foxtrot
  • Viennese Waltz
  • Quickstep

Any of these ballroom dances are a bit more complicated in their footwork and require a bit more concentration to perfect.

Difference between Foxtrot and Quickstep

  • Foxtrot: This dance is either preformed at a fast or slow pace. The Foxtrot features smooth steps paired with a medium tempo, either from jazz or swing music. If you want to learn this dance, you’ll need to remember the basic rhythm: slow, quick, quick OR slow, slow, quick, quick.
  • Quickstep: This dance is simply a faster version of the foxtrot and includes quick steps, runs of quick steps and requires partners to find synchronized foot movements. For this dance, you’ll need great balance, timing and be able to learn intricate dance steps.

Difference between Waltz and Viennese Waltz

  • Waltz: Known as one of the most popular ballroom dances to learn, the waltz is based on a ¼ square box pattern and is an elegant way for partners to connect on the dance floor. As a man leads, the woman follows in this style of dance. People tend to think this dance is intricate, but in fact, it’s rather simple compared to the other ballroom dances.
  • Viennese Waltz: With a constant rise and fall motion, the dance is graceful and elegant to watch, but hard to execute. This waltz follows a ¾ time but is performed at a quicker tempo with a natural turn to the right, followed by a reverse turn to the left and two change steps.

Learning a new ballroom dance or brushing up on your old dance skill should be fun and enjoyable. Allow us to be a part of that experience when you’re looking for a studio to take ballroom dance lessons in Minnesota.
