If you like the show Dancing with the Stars than you will LOVE Dancing Twin Cities Celebrities!
There are many similarities between the popular show Dancing with the Stars and Dancing with the Twin Cities Celebrities. However, the one big difference is Dancing with the Twin Cites Celebrities is all about raising money for local charities.
Six celebrity dancers train and compete for their chance to win the “Dancing with the Twin Cities Champion” award. There is also an award for the Celebrity dancer that raises the most money for their charity.
This year’s event features a classic Hollywood theme. The celebrity dancers will work with the Arthur Murray professionals to train and choose their genre of dance. They will work together to choreograph a performance to a song from the Hollywood Classics movies.
Dancing with the Twin Cities Celebrities Charity Ball is in its ninth year. It was founded by the AM Charity Fund and sponsored by the Arthur Murray Dance Centers of Edina and St. Paul. The event was started in 2010 in memory of Jesse E. Smith who lost his battle to Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Jesse was a respected member of ballroom dance community. Jesse and his wife Lynda were US American Style Ballroom Champions, achieving four US titles. To honor his life and legacy Lynda Smith founded the AM Charity fund and started one of the biggest ballroom dance events of the year!
While the celebrities are competing for the trophy, there is no loser. To date, the event has raised over a quarter of a million dollars for local charities. “Dancing with the twin Cities Celebrities offers so much to the attendees and the community, says Twin Cities Arthur Murray owner Lynda Smith. It is a chance for people to come together to celebrate and support local charities all through the joy of dance!” The night will feature a meet and greet with our local celebrities, cocktail hour, a live and silent auction, a fabulous meal, a terrific professional show and lots of dancing!
From the popular show the Voice, to Heidi Klum’s reality series Project Runway there is a great mix of celebrity dancers this year. The six celebrities competing are Kat Perkins, Christopher Straub, Melissa Duncan, Erin Schwab, Julia Tice, and Fred Wehling. They come from different walks of life but the one thing they have in common is their passion to raise money for the charity of their choice. The six charities selected by the participating Twin Cities celebrities are Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, The Rising Star Foundation, Evolve Family and Adoption Services, Guild Incorporated, Avenues for Homeless Youth and Cross Catholic Out Reach.
“The intent of this event is to bring together our passion for ballroom dancing and our love for the Twin Cities by raising funds to support the good works of six outstanding charitable organizations,” said Lynda Smith, owner of the Twin Cities Arthur Murray. One of the charities that benefit each year is the house charity, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in memory of Jesse Smith, Lynda Smith’s late husband who died of Hodgkin’s disease in 2006.
