Passion, determination, community and a lot sweat is what it took six local celebrities to raise over $70,000 for charity.   It was a star-studded evening to remember as nearly 300 dance enthusiasts  gathered  for the 9th  Dancing with the Twin Cities Celebrities Charity Ball. The festive evening consisted of a live and silent auction, an elegant sit down dinner, a celebrity dance competition featuring six local celebrities.  To top off the high energy evening there was a professional show performed by the Arthur Murray dancers followed by social dancing for all.

In addition, Kat Perkins, from the popular TV show, The Voice, also serenaded the crowd and gave a special performance to showcase her amazing voice.

The History of AM Charity Fund

Founded in 2010 by Twin Cities Arthur Murray owner Lynda Smith, the AM Charity Fund was created in memory of her late husband, Jesse, who lost his battle with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2006.  Lynda wanted to create an opportunity for local celebrities to raise funds for causes that are near to their hearts.  To date, Dancing with the Twin Cities Celebrities has raised over $320, 000 for local charities including the Twin Cities Arthur Murray house charity, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

The celebrity dancers performed numbers to classic Hollywood movies and chose various styles of dance including: Swing, Cha Cha, Tango, Quickstep, Lindy Hop and Hustle. They each created their own choreography with their Arthur Murray’s professional dance instructor.

The 2018 Dance Champs

In conclusion, the “Dance for a Cause Championship” trophy went to Melissa Duncan. She danced to raise money for Guild Incorporated.  Fred Wheling was the winner of the “Ambassador Award”. He raised $16,961 for his charity, Cross Catholic Outreach.
